Description	:	John Harms Bargen, son of Eilert and Anna Gerdes Bargen, was born November 18, 1878, in Goedens, Germany. In infancy he received Holy Baptism and in his youth was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 14 he came to the United States, arriving in Nelson April 9, 1893, where he made his home with his uncle, Fred Gerdes. At the age of 21 he became a citizen of his adopted country. At the age of 14 he came to the United States, arriving in Nelson April 9, 1893, where he made his home with his uncle, Fred Gerdes. At the age of 21 he became a citizen of his adopted country. On March 17, 1904, he was united in marriage with Minnie Meyer. This union was blessed with seven children. Until 1945 he farmed in the Cadams area. Since that time he lived in retirement in Superior, where on May 7, 1966, he departed this life at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers and three sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; six children, Herman of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Alfred Andersen (Irene) of Superior; Mrs. Alvin Jacobsen (Edna) of Enid, Okla., Orval of Hardy, Mrs. Glen Oltmans (Della) of Nelson, and Mrs. Arthur Frey (Mayme) of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers Eilert of Nora and Fred of Jever, Germany; one sister, Mrs. Johanna Toddings of Altebruecke, Germany; 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends. John Bargen was a charter member of Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior. His great interest was in his family and his home. He was also interested in all civic affairs. Services were held Tuesday, May 10, at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior with the Rev. Robert Leege officiating. Interment was in the Salem Lutheran cemeetery (sic). Casket bearers were Duane Bargen, Steven Oltmans, Robert Jacobsen, Gary Bargen, James Frey, and Dennis Bargen. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 19, 1966; pg. 4
