Description	:	John Harold Storms was born March 31, 1920 in Milboro, SD to Joseph and Crescentia (Willems) Storms. John was the seventh of nine children in his family. Two older brothers; Warner and Eugene, four older sisters; Marie, Helen, Bernice, Laurene and two younger brothers Mark and James. John grew up on the family farm and attended Beaver Creek School and graduated from Wood High School. John was the seventh of nine children in his family. Two older brothers; Warner and Eugene, four older sisters; Marie, Helen, Bernice, Laurene and two younger brothers Mark and James. John grew up on the family farm and attended Beaver Creek School and graduated from Wood High School. John spoke of his disappointment when his attempts to enter military service were declined so he continued to work the family farm. John met his wife Jennie Ellington at a dance and they were married in April of 1947. Three children were born to this union; Thomas, Marjorie and Daniel. The new family eventually moved to Kennebec, SD where John worked many long hours caring for another farm's livestock, crops and his own family. In 1962 John, Jennie and family moved to Dallas, SD where they owned and operated Dallas Oil Company and Storms Service Station. In later years, John sold the oil business and converted the service station into a convenience store and local postal annex. John was an active member of the community and served as Fire Chief and Mayor of Dallas. John was also active in his church and became a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. John was one of the early members of the Gregory Golf Course. He spent many enjoyable hours developing and playing the course with his golf buddies, eventually earning the nickname "Putter John". John enjoyed the local school events and sports. He tended a large garden every summer and learned to make great bread. After retirement, John and Jennie enjoyed some travel and began to spend winters in Casa Grande, AZ. They golfed and spent happy times with new friends who became an extended family. It was during this time that John became a doting grandpa. He loved "the kids" visits and made many trips to San Diego, CA to spend time with them. After Jennie's death in 2007, John moved to San Diego. He enjoyed the weather and being with family, but his heart always remained in SD. John died February 27, 2011 with his family by his side. He will be missed and fondly remembered. Those proceeding John in death include his parents, wife and sons and 5 siblings. Survivors include his daughter Marjorie, son in law Alan, and grandchildren Stacie and Thomas all of San Diego, CA; siblings Helen Deleeuw and Mark Storms both of Winner, SD; Laurene Ekberg of Rapid City, SD and many other relatives and friends
