Description	:	John Harrington, a Fillmore County pioneer, passed away at his home in Geneva at 1:30 o'clock Christmas morning. He had been in poor health for some time and a few days before his death he was stricken with grip, from which he never rallied. Mr. Harrington was born in Tipperary County, Ireland, June 22, 1839. He came to American August 15, 1866, and settled in New York state. He came to American August 15, 1866, and settled in New York state. He came to Nebraska in March, 1878, homesteading five miles east of Geneva, and he resided in this county continuously for forty-six years. Mr. Harrington retired from the farm May 19, 1913, and moved to Geneva. Mr. Harrington was married to Honorah Hourigan January 6, 1871. To them were born fourteen children. The widow and ten children and nineteen grandchildren survive. The children are, Matt of Bridgeport, Mrs. W. P. Nevin of Kearney, Jack of Geneva, Mrs. Henry Pimper of Lincoln, Mrs. Charles Ohngemach of Friend, Mrs. Lon McMahan of Hope, Kas., Dennis of Omaha, Mrs. Will Mitchell of Exeter and Alice and Virgie of Geneva. All were present for the funeral except Mrs. McMahan, who was unable to come on account of illness. The funeral was held Saturday, December 27, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva and was conducted by Rev. George Agius. At the service Mrs. A. H. Elder sang, "Face to Face". Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank McClusky, C. F. Buehrer, George Doud, Joe Komarek, A. Braden and Jacob Weis. Mr. Harrington was a true citizen, and a loving husband and father. He was never known to speak a cross word to one of his family. His old age was spent in quiet retirement, free from the cares and anxieties of life. A useful career was crowned by a happy and contented end. At the extreme age he had attained, his death could not have been unexpected. The Nebraska Signal January 1925
