Description	:	Obituary - Jack Howsden, son of William and Elizabeth Howsden, was born in England on August 2, 1862. At the age of eight years, he came with his parents, to the United States. After landing in New York they moved to Illinois and later to Friend, Nebraska. When he was 17 years of age, the family moved to Harlan county and took a homestead southwest of Huntley. When he was a young man, Mr. Howsden united with the Methodist church at Huntley. On March 4, 1886, he and Mary Ellen Ingmire were united in marriage at Alma. To this union eleven children... Read More	Obituary - Jack Howsden, son of William and Elizabeth Howsden, was born in England on August 2, 1862. At the age of eight years, he came with his parents, to the United States. After landing in New York they moved to Illinois and later to Friend, Nebraska. When he was 17 years of age, the family moved to Harlan county and took a homestead southwest of Huntley. When he was a young man, Mr. Howsden united with the Methodist church at Huntley. On March 4, 1886, he and Mary Ellen Ingmire were united in marriage at Alma. To this union eleven children were born. His wife passed away in 1927 and three daughters and one son also preceded him in death. For the past two and one-half years he made his home with his son, Charlie, in Alma. After a severe fall suffered three weeks ago he was taken to the Alma Memorial hospital, where he passed away August 27, 1954, at the age of 92 years and 25 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Schescke of Huntley, Nebr., and Mrs. Mable Davis of Laramie, Wyo., five sons, Oscar, Charlie and Burt, all of Alma, Nebr., and Arthur and Fred of Hastings, Nebr., one sister, Flora Ingmire of Fort Morgan, Colo., 23 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, August 29, at 2:00 o'clock from the Zulauf Funeral Chapel in Alma, with the Reverend Otto Michel, pastor of the Methodist church at Republican City, officiating, and burial was made in the Bainbridge cemetery near Huntley. Mr. Howsden spent the major portion of his lifetime engaged in farming in the Huntley community. He was a good neighbor and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand in the time of need. His passing will be mourned by all who knew him.
