La Porte City, Ia., Dec 31-(Special)-John Haymond, a pioneer settler of Spring Creek township, Black Hawk county, having come here in 1853, died at 8:30 Sunday morning of arterial sclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. He was 83 years of age. For more than seventy years he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a charter member of that church in this city. Until the past year he was a regular attendant upon the services. His health had been enfeebled for the past eighteen months by infirmities of age and the inroads of the disease which finally caused his death. Prior to eighteen months ago he was quite hale and strong. Mr. Haymond was born Jan. 27, 1828, in Taylor county, West Virginia. He was married in that county in 1851 to Elizabeth Osborne. In 1853 the couple moved to Iowa, settling on a farm in Spring Creek township. He made the western journey in an immigrant's wagon, as there were no railroads in this part of the country at that time. For the past 20 years Mr. Haymond had lived in La Porte City. His widow, five sons and a daughter survive to mourn the loss of a loving and indulgent husband and father. The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Methodist church. She was born on 17 March 1804 in Monongalia Co, West Virginia, USA. She died on 08 Dec 1863 in Black Hawk Co, Iowa, USA. John's wife was Elizabeth Osborne. They were married in 1851. Elizabeth died in 22 Oct 1925 Big Lake, Sherburne, Minnesota, USA.
