Description	:	John was a native of Patterson and graduated from the University of California and the San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He joined the US Navy in 1942 and saw action in the Pacific, the Mediterranean, and at Normandy on D-Day. He was discharged as a lieutenant in 1946. When he returned home, he took over management of the Evans Telephone Company, which had been founded by his father John Henry Evans Sr in 1913. When he returned home, he took over management of the Evans Telephone Company, which had been founded by his father John Henry Evans Sr in 1913. The company incorporated in 1952, with Evans as president, and purchased the Livingston Telephone Company in 1968. He was a member of the California Independent Telephone Association and served on the Board of Directors of the United States Independent Telephone Association. He was also the owner and president of the Evans Funeral Chapel in Patterson and the Evans-Kreiger Funeral Chapel in Newman and Gustine, and belonged to the California Funeral Directors Association. He was very active in community affairs and served as Patterson's mayor from 1952 to 1960. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the 20-30 Club, Masonic Lodge #488, Scottish Rite of San Jose, the Ashmes Shrine of Oakland, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at UC. He was past president of the Patterson Chamber of Commerce, a member of the executive board of the Central Valley District of the California State Chamber of Commerce, a member of the advisory board to the president of California State College, Stanislaus, and belonged to the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. Evans leaves his wife, a son, two daughters, and a sister. The family asks that any remembrances be given to the American Cancer Society, Stanislaus-Tuolumne Unit.
