Description	:	John Henry "Harry" Freeze was born January 24, 1854, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the 7th of 10 children of Joseph Freeze and Mary Elizabeth Rouzer. He was the grandson of George and Susanna Bowers Freeze, who settled in Thurmont in the early 1800's. His maternal grandparents were Peter and Rachel Hope Martin Rouzer. On October 28, 1880, he married Clara Eliza Parrish, in Thurmont, the daughter of Nicholas Merryman Parrish and Catharine Ann Horton. Read More	John Henry "Harry" Freeze was born January 24, 1854, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the 7th of 10 children of Joseph Freeze and Mary Elizabeth Rouzer. He was the grandson of George and Susanna Bowers Freeze, who settled in Thurmont in the early 1800's. His maternal grandparents were Peter and Rachel Hope Martin Rouzer. On October 28, 1880, he married Clara Eliza Parrish, in Thurmont, the daughter of Nicholas Merryman Parrish and Catharine Ann Horton. Harry and Clara were the parents of 7 children: Bessie Horton, Henry Maynard, Mabel Katherine, Joseph Claude, Earl Parrish, Edgar Merriman and Wilbur Ross Freeze. Harry passed away March 18, 1938, in Thurmont, and was buried on the 21st in Weller's Church Cemetery there. Harry was my great-grandfather. Obituary for J. Henry Freeze, Catoctin Clarion newspaper, Saturday, March 19, 1938: "Former Thurmont Mail Carrier Dies Aged 83. Funeral Services for John Henry Freeze To Be Held Monday Afternoon. John Henry Freeze, who was a mail carrier from the Thurmont Post Office from the beginning of the century until his retirement a few years ago, died at 9:40 o'clock Friday night at his home at Thurmont, following a three-week illness of paralysis, followed by pneumonia. He was aged 83 years, seven months and six days. So familiarly was Mr. Freeze known as 'Harry' that it was not until after his death that some of his younger sons became aware of his baptismal name. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Rouzer Freeze, of the Thurmont community, and was the last member of his immediate family. His service with the Thurmont Post Office began in 1901. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. G. Walter Smith, Hagerstown, and Miss Mabel C. (sic) Freeze, at home, and four sons, Earl P., Detroit, Mich., J. Claude, Edgar M. and Wilbur R. all of Thurmont, also twelve grandchildren. Funeral from his late home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with services conducted by his pastor, Rev. Charles H. Corbett, of St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment in the U. B. Cemetery. Wilhide and Creeger, funeral directors." Harry Freeze, a lifelong resident of Thurmont, died at 8:40 o'clock, Friday evening, March 18, 1938, at his home here following a three-weeks' illness of paralysis, followed by pneumonia. He was aged 83 years, 7 months and 6 days. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Rouzer Freeze, and was the last of his immediate family. In his earlier years, he was a prominent cigar manufacturer and later became connected with the Thurmont Post Office as a rural carrier, which position he held for 20 years. He retired 18 years ago. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. G. Walter Smith, Hagerstown, and Miss Mabel C. (sic) Freeze, at home, and five sons: H. Maynard, of Washington, D.C.; Earl P., Detroit, Mich.; J. Claude, Edgar M. and Wilbur R., all of Thurmont; also twelve grandchildren. Funeral was held from his late home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with services conducted by his pastor, Rev. Charles H.
