Interment was made in West View cemetery. The pall bearers were the three sons and three sons-in-law, G.M. Hunter, Emory Hunter and John D. Junter, Wm. Bunce, E.H. Abel and D.J. Brennan. John Henry Hunter was born at Lawrence, Mass., February 9th., 1853, and died in his home near La Porte City, Monday afternoon, January 5th, 1931, after an illness of only a few days. He was the son of a Methodist minister and was baptized in infancy. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was ten years old and the family located near Shellsburg, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Margaret Jane Riggle, February 16th, 1875, and they established their home on a farm, coming to the vicinity of La Porte City twenty-five years ago. Mr. Hunter was a very quiet, unassuming man, a kind and loving husband and father, and a good and accommodating neighbor who could always be depended on in time of need. Seven children were born into the Hunter home, five of whom survive with the widow and are as follows: G.M. Hunter, Mrs. E.H. Abel, Mrs. D.J. Brennan, and John d. Hunter, all of La Porte City; Emory, of Keota, Ia. There are also twenty-three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Two children preceded their father in death, one going in infancy and the other, Mrs. W.A. Bunce, died in February, 1926. There are also three brothers and one sister living, James, of Lohrville, Ia.; George, of Mitchel, S.Dak.; Alexander, of Sunnyside, Cal.; Mrs. Belle Wilcox, Hubbell, Neb. Out of town relatives and friends who came to attend the funeral service were the following: Mr. and Mrs. George Fry, Ellis, Fry, and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Riggle and daughter, Lou, all of Vinton. Mrs. and Mrs. George Riggle, of Shellsburg. Mrs. John Fry and daughter, Mrs. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gray, Miss Pearl Emley, W.A. Brunce, Merle Bunce, all of Waterloo. Sid Riggle and Ray Riggle, of Crystal Lake, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Riggle, of Corwith, Ia. James Hunter and two sons, Lee and Arthur, and daughter, Mrs. Orsie McClure, all of Lohrville, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Hunter, Harland, Marion and Wilma Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Everette Vincen, all of Keota.
