Jantzen Buried Thursday, April 3 Our dear brother in Christ, Mr. John Henry Jantzen, was born the 17th day of September, 1874, at Wastade, Hanover, Germany. His parents were Mr. Wilhelm Jantzen and wife, Mette - nee Stehrenberg. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in the place of his birth. In March, 1891, emigrated to America, and at once to Sioux county, where on February 8th, 1899, he was married to Miss Katherine Marguereth Lutjens and they have lived in the vicinity of Hull ever since. Six children, three sons and three daughters, were born to them - all six surviving their father. Our brother enjoyed, as it appeared to us, especially good health during his life time, until this winter when he began to complain. However, he continued doing his farm work and working at the carpenter trade up to the 12th of February, 1919, when he was compelled to quit work and take to his bed. It was first thought he was suffering from the flu and then kidney trouble. Finally, after a thorough examination, it was realized that it was that dreaded disease, cancer of the stomach. He suffered terrible pain, but being a Christian man he sought and found consolation and help in the eternal Word of God and the Holy Sacrament of the alter. Trusting in the blood of Jesus Christ, he departed form this life on Sunday, March 30th, at about 2:45, p.m., at the age of 46 years, 6 months and 13 days. The mourning survivors are his wife Katherine; his children Ella, Rudolph, Fred, Henry, Henrietta and Alma; his brother Herman; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Margueretha Lutjens and many other relatives and friends in America and the old country. Mr. Jantzen was not only one of the active members of St. Paul's Lutheran church, but also, for a long time, secretary of the congregation, and, what is still more, he was an attentive and most regular partaker in the services of our Lord and a lover of God's word and sacrament, and before he had that long examination by two local and two Sioux City doctors, a few weeks ago, he first strengthened himself by receiving the Lord's supper. He was also given to prayer, and you would often find him on his sick-bed with his hands folded. So we trust that according to His promises, He did with this, His servant, according to His holy promises in which He says; "Seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you," and that now the gates of Heaven have been opened to Brother Jantzen to let him into the new Jerusalem. - Rev. P. J. Bunge The funeral took place Thursday afternoon, April 3rd, many attending, and interment made in the Lutheran cemetery in Lincoln township, Rev. P. J. Bunge, officiating.
