| Description | : | The Knox family came from Londonderry, Ireland; John Henry Knox was born in 1848, before or soon after the ship "Superior" landed in New Orleans. At age 13 he ran away from home (probably in Orleans Parish). He joined the Louisiana Confederate Army as a young teenager in Northern Louisiana. After the war, he married Elizabeth Martin Newton (1850-1934) in Union County, AR.(in 1870). He worked on her farm near Old Hillsboro as a laborer before they married. He and Elizabeth (Betsy) had nine children: Perry, Jim, John and Minnie (twins), Norman, Frank, Ollie, Annie and Lucy. |
