In 1873 they came to Nebraska and rented the Wm. Stricker farm now owned by George Schoene, then moved to the farm now occupied by David Ferguson north of Cook. Read More	From the Cook Newspaper 1905 Johann Heinrich Meyer was born Oct. 14th, 1856 near Osnabrueck, Germany. When only a child he emigrated with his parents to St. Louis. In 1873 they came to Nebraska and rented the Wm. Stricker farm now owned by George Schoene, then moved to the farm now occupied by David Ferguson north of Cook. On the 18th of December, 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Rauchmann. They first were to housekeeping on the farm now owned by John Badberg for a few years and then moved to Farina, Illinois, but soon after returned to Nebraska and bought a farm some three miles northeast of Burr. This was some twenty years ago and before the Crete branch was built. The farm is one of the best and most improved in that vicinity. Some sixteen years ago Mr. Meyer's mind seemed to be deranged, but during the last ten years it was thought he was better. Then suddenly about seven weeks ago he again showed signs of insanity. Wednesday morning Nov. 22 he was about the house helping with the morning work. At 10 he walked out as usual to look after things but was soon missed by his family. Search was made and he was found on the east side of the farm in the pasture where two small creeks meet. He was sitting with his hands in his lap, eyes closed and his back leaning against the creek bank. Dr. Barnes of Burr was called and upon examination found that he had ended his life by drinking carbolic acid. His mouth and throat were burned and a very strong odor of the acid was noticed. The bottle could not be found. Funeral was held Saturday at 1 P.M. Rev. Beckmann of Burr preaching the funeral sermon taking for his text the first verse of the Thirty-eight chapter of Isaiah. The sermon was one that will long be remembered. The remains were buried in the cemetery one mile north of Burr. The deceased leaves a widow, three sons, two daughters, his aged mother, and one brother. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones.
