Description	:	Services Held Monday for John Huigens Funeral services for John Huigens, who passed away in a Norfolk hospital Tuesday evening, April 12, where he had been hospitalized for two months, were conducted Monday morning at St. Ludger church with the Very Rev. Joseph B. Falke, pastor, officiating. Causes of his death were old age complications and shock caused by the death of his wife in February of this year. Burial was in St. Ludger cemetery and the pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, John King, Allen Huigens, Alfred Tharnish, James Huigens, Lawrence Mattern and Bob Huigens. Creighton stores were closed during the services. John Huigens was born June 15, 1862, near Henry, Ill. He was married to Mary Fitzler on Jan. 29, 1884 at Henry, Ill. They came to Creighton in February of the same year and homesteaded in Logan township near what was known as Richmond Hill. In 1905 they moved to Creighton and Mr. Huigens followed the carpenter business for many years. In January of this year the couple observed their 65th wedding anniversary, but were unable to be together due to snow blocked roads, as Mrs. Huigens was in a Sioux City hospital with a hip fracture and he was unable to travel there. Mrs. Huigens' death occurred the following week. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ivan King of Beemer, Mrs. Edward Mattern, Mrs. Ernest Tharnish and Miss Anna Huigens; four sons, Joseph A. of Rushville, Bernard J., Edward J. and Henry L., all of Creighton, 56 grandchildren and 43* great grandchildren. ...The Creighton News 21 April 1949 *number of great grandchildren does not match number given in his wife's obit.
