Description	:	John was the son of John of Caroline County. He married Elizabeth Chiles in Caroline Co. on 8/30/1763. She was the likely daughter of William Chiles, a neighbor of the John Hutcheson family near Chesterfield (Ruther Glen). According to John's family bible he first lived on a farm in Caroline County named "Locust Hill". They next settled in Hanover Co. but eventually moved to Mecklenburg County in 1767. He married Elizabeth Chiles in Caroline Co. on 8/30/1763. She was the likely daughter of William Chiles, a neighbor of the John Hutcheson family near Chesterfield (Ruther Glen). According to John's family bible he first lived on a farm in Caroline County named "Locust Hill". They next settled in Hanover Co. but eventually moved to Mecklenburg County in 1767. He was one of 4 brothers, Charles, John, Richard, & Peter who reared their families near Baskerville & Boydton. John acquired 485 acres on Layton's Creek from Frederick Hatcher on 11/21/1766. The property had come to Hatcher as part of his wife's dower. After John's purchase he sold the acreage on the east side of the creek and eventually accumulated more land on the west. During the Revolution in April 1782, a few months prior to his death, he provided a beef for the Continental Army. On June 5, 1781 he created his family will. At the end he wrote "Lastly I appoint my Friends & Brothers Charles, Richard & Peter Hutcheson also my two sons Chiles & John Hutcheson Executors of this my last Will & Testament." In the September 1782 census as taken by Cluverius Coleman, John's widow is noted as head of the family with 11 whites & 10 blacks. Widow Elizabeth remarried to Mr. William Baber Dec. 28, 1789. In accordance with the laws of the time the children were given the following male legal guardians in 1791: Richard Hutcheson (uncle) & William Stone (neighbor).
