Description	:	John Brown, Sr. Called by Death John Brown died Tuesday afternoon, April 6th after an illness of more than two years' duration. During the early stages of his illness he was cared for in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marie Medin and later taken to the hospital where his death occurred. Read More	John Brown, Sr. Called by Death John Brown died Tuesday afternoon, April 6th after an illness of more than two years' duration. During the early stages of his illness he was cared for in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marie Medin and later taken to the hospital where his death occurred. Mr. Brown was born in Soan, Norway, in the year of 1859. When he was six months old he came with his parents to America, settling in Fillmore County, Minnesota. Here he grew to manhood and on February 27, 1880 was united in marriage to Miss Sigrid Henjum. In 1906 he moved to his farm near Sherman, where he lived until 19 years ago, when he retired from the farm and made his home in Dell Rapids. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were the parents of ten children, two, a daughter, Julia, died in 1918 and a son in infancy preceded their parents in death. Mrs. Brown died six years ago. Surviving are the children, Mrs. E.B. Kringen, Sherman; N.J. Brown, Gary, Minn.; John Brown, Jr., Dell Rapids; Mrs. Marie Medin, Dell Rapids; Mrs. J.A. Berdahl, Dunn Center, N.D.; Mrs. I.J. Johnson, Austin, Minn.; three brothers, Ole Brown, Whalen, Minn.; Herman Brown, Whalen, Minnesota; Hans Brown, Rutland; two sisters, Mrs. Ole Peterson, Rutland, N.D.; Mrs. T.G. Springen, Hillight, Wyoming. Last rites will be held Friday at 1:00 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Medin and at 1:30 in the Lutheran Church, with the pastor, Rev. Old Odland, in charge. Committal rites will take place in the Norway cemetery north of Garretson. Glenn Baird, Ellsworth Brown, Erick Berdahl, Cleo Berdahl, Gilbert Kringen, Gilbert Brown, grandsons, will act as pallbearers. During the years Mr. Brown has live in this community he has been known as one of the community's substantial citizens. He has lived a Christian life, placing the work of the church above all other. To those who knew best he was a true friends and neighbor and a devoted father to his family. His passing is keenly felt in this community. Dell Rapids Tribune April 8, 1937
