Description	:	According to Wiota Lutheran Church christening records in South Wayne, WI, John was actually born and baptized in 1870. At that time, the Norwegian versions of their names were used: "John Jensen", son of Jens Jensen and Elena. Later their names were Americanized to John Johnson, son of John and Ellen. It is believed that he actually had no middle name but used the "J" initial to represent the customary patronymic of "Johnsen". He was the second oldest of eight children. According to "Wonders Of Williams", page 1420, John arrived in the Zahl area from Wisconsin in 1902, where he homesteaded and did extensive coal mining on his land. "John had the first threshing machine in this area. He received the nickname of Midnight Johnson because he did so much work at night." He married Sina Flannes (Flonnes or Flones) 19 Sep 1906 in Marmon, Williams County, ND. They had no known descendants. Obituary [source: local library cemetery book] Funeral Services Held For Johnson Funeral services were held Sunday, October 3, at 3:30 at the Free Lutheran church in Zahl for John Johnson, 66, of Orthell township who passed away in Williston Thursday, following a stroke last Monday. Rev. G. Rundstrom of Zahl conducted the services and burial was in the Solberg cemetery near Zahl. Pall bearers were John Moline of Williston, John Erlandson, Matt Grev, George Priddy, Lud Solberg and Ole Severtson. Mr. Johnson was married to Sena Floness in Winner township in 1906, and he was a member of the school board for a number of years, and on the township board, also belonging to the Free Lutheran church of Zahl. Mr. Johnson was a prominent cattle raiser in this locality being one of the early cattle ranchers. He is survived by his wife and two sisters, Mrs. Ben Johnson of Madison, Wis.; Mrs. W. W. Gerhardt of Turtle Lake, Wis., and one brother, Henry Johnson, also of Wisconsin. Obituary [source: local library cemetery book] Death of John J. About two years ago Mr. Johnson suffered his first stroke and hasn't been in very good health since.
