She and her parents, Nils Pedersen Flønæs and Marit Olsdatter left Norway 16 Nov 1881, along with one other sibling, infant Anna, and settled in Wisconsin. Here her parents' names became Nels and Mary, and Sigrid became Sina or, more often, Sena. (Sina is inscribed on the gravestone.) Sena married John J. Johnson, a prominent cattle rancher and coal miner in the Zahl, ND area on 19 Sep 1906 in Marmon, Williams County, ND at the Evangelical Lutheran Church. They have no known descendants. According to a local biographical book "Wonders of Williams", page 1420, "Sena Flonnes" came to work in North Dakota for a time before her marriage, following which they lived on his homestead. Following John's death in 1937, "Sena made her home for a while on the farm, but eventually moved to a house in Williston and made her home there for a number of her later years. She visited her sisters, Mrs. Clarence Hagen and Mrs. Minnie Scantland, a number of times in California, but always returned to her native North Dakota. She passed away in Williston." Obituary, Williston Daily Herald, 5 Jun 1956 Mrs. S. Johnson Service Thursday Mrs. Sina Johnson, 78, resident of Williston, died in a local hospital this morning. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7, 1956, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Leslie F. Brandt, officiating. Burial will be in the Solberg Cemetery. Sina Flannes was born in Selbu, Norway, November 16, 1878, where she was baptized. When she was 3 1/2 years old she came to this country with her parents to Cumberland, Wisconsin. The family moved to Washburn, Wisconsin in the spring of 1886, where she received her schooling and was confirmed in the Lutheran church. She came to Marmon in 1904 and homesteaded and was married to John Johnson. After their marriage they lived on his farm home in Good Luck township. After Mr. Johnson's death in 1937, she moved into Williston, where she has since made her home except for several winters which she spent in California. She was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran church and Ladies Aid and a charter member of the Helping Hand Homemakers Club of Gladys. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. A. P. Johnson (Anna) of Washburn, Wisconsin; Mrs. Olena Hagen of Oakland, California; Mrs. Minnie Scantland of Oxnard California, and one brother, Ole Flannes of Minneapolis. Friends may call all day Wednesday and Thursday morning at the Everson Funeral Home. [Bio by C. Ferris]
