He followed diversified methods and to some extent engaged in stock-raising. His fields showed careful attention and his buildings were kept in good repair. John was a Democrat in his political affiliations and for six years efficiently served as township trustee. He also held the position of Clerk of Sumner Township, Winneshiek, Iowa. He was a devout member of the Catholic Church and fraternally was connected with the Woodmen. He took a deep interest in the welfare of his locality and in achieving success for himself set agricultural standards and contributed to the general prosperity.
