Departed this life February 9, 1920 at the age of 70 years and 28 days. He was united in marriage to Retta De Long September 25, 1879. To this union was born three children, John James, who departed this life in infancy, Oda C. and Perry E. He leaves behind to mourn his loss a loving companion, two sons, two grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Molly Barber of Truro, Iowa and Mrs. Sally Woodard of Brighten, Colo. Also a host of friends and relatives. He was a kind and loving husband and father, always thinking of their comfort and happiness. A good and true friend to all. He was a good and kind neighbor, always lending a willing hand in time of sickness and need. He will be missed not only by his own people, but by every one who knew him, as he always had a good and kind word for every one he met. Although not belonging to any church, he believed and trusted in his God and was often praying to Him and expressing his desire for help and guidance in time of trouble and need. He express himself as being prepared and ready to go. During his short illness he never complained, always speaking kind to those that were around him and patient through it all although souly afflicted. His duties here on earth done and he was faithful to them all. May we hope to join him some day in heaven. John J. Cooper was one of Clarke County's best known and most highly respected pioneer citizens and he had to do with the wonderful development this vicinity has made since frontier days.
