Description	:	John Gruseth passed away at the Volga hospital Thursday August 25, after a short illness, at the age of 85 years, and 8 days. Funeral services were held at 1:15 pm Monday at the home of his son, John Gruseth Jr., where Mr Alden Hovda sang "Behold the Host Arrayed in White" and Rev. Karl Kildahl conducted the prayer service. The church service followed at two o'clock, in the First Lutheran Church in Volga. Rev. Kildahl officiated, and Mrs Edward Lee sang "My God and I" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." Active pallbearers were Chas E Lee, Albert Nelson, Solon Anundson, A H Norvold, Nels Terkelsen and O A Oines. The Lee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Mr Gruseth was born near the city of Bosberg, Trondheim, Norway on the 17th of August 1864. He was baptized by Rev Frick and confirmed by Rev. Holmboe. In the Spring of 1882, he emigrated to the United States and came to Sioux Falls, where he was employed for two years. In 1884, he went to Clark County, where he farmed. In 1891 he was married to Julia Leite of Volga. They made their home in Clark county until 1895, when they moved to a farm four miles northwest of Volga. There they spent the remaining years of their lives, Mr Gruseth was a trustee in the Lutheran church for over 40 years and held other offices in the church, county and township. On Dec 1, 1941, the Gruseth's celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. His wife and one daughter, (Alma) Mrs. Clint Parker, preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Clarence and John of Volga, and two daughters, (Clara) Mrs L D Ermish of Naperville, IL and (Gladys) Mrs Harry Lund of Volga. Also by one brother in Norway, 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
