On March 10, 1867, he was united in marriage to Marslene Tinsley. To this union ten children were born, three whom have entered their reward. In 1881 they came with their family to Gage County where they lived for about four years, later moving to Pawnee County where they joined the forces that were at work turning the virgin prairies into fertile fields. At this task the prime of his life was spent. In the year 1900 they moved to Burchard, and here on November 1, 1913 the Messenger came and called the wife and mother away, from this time on his house was maintained by the help of his children, until December 29, 1924 the load of life became too heavy and he went to join those who had gone on before. Early in his life he confessed his faith in Christ and after coming to Nebraska, he united with the Christian Church at Burchard and as long as his strength would permit he was active in its service. In his going we lose a beloved father, an old and respected citizen and a friend that was ever ready to help in time of need. He leaves to mourn his departure seven children. Mrs. L. J. Gartner, 0. A. Peacock, James Peacock, and 0. E. Peacock all of Burchard: Ms C. M. Butcher And Mrs. Chadey Goodale of Lincoln: and Mrs. James O'Neil of Ainsworth, Nebraska: thirty-six grand children, one brother, one sister and a host of friends. The summons found him ready to unite in closer companionship with Him who doeth all things well. Funeral services were held at the family home, Wednesday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. L. S. Burnam, pastor of the Christen church at Liberty. Members of the American Legion bore the body to its last resting place, in the Burchard cemetery. (from the Burchard Times) 30 Dec 1934 AN OLD SOLDIER IS CALLED: Taps sounded Monday afternoon, calling Comrade John Peacock, Burchard's last Civil War vetren, to rest. Mr. Peacock fell and broke his hip on Christmas Day. He failed rapidly from then on, being unconscious most of the time. He Passed away at 2:15 o'clock Monday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 o'clock this Wednesday Morning. (from the Burchard Times)
