Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Church, Greeley, with Father George Matz officiating. He was born May 16, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Louis A. and Theresa (Schraml) Sommer. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and France from April 1944 to September 1946. Read More	The Ottawa Herald, (Ottawa, Kansas) 14 March 2003 GARNETT - John J. Sommer, 81, Garnett, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Church, Greeley, with Father George Matz officiating. He was born May 16, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Louis A. and Theresa (Schraml) Sommer. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and France from April 1944 to September 1946. He lived in Greeley until moving to Deer Park, Texas, in 1971. He returned to Greeley after retiring, and moved to Garnett in 1993. He was a welder for the Fluor Corporation in Paola and Deer Park, retiring in 1981. He worked as a custodian at Greeley Elementary School from 1982 to 1991. He married Viola Mary Kipper on Aug. 24, 1943, in Scipio. She survives of the home. He was a member of St. John's Church, a current member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, and a member of the VFW of Greeley and then Garnett. He is survived by a son, John L. Sommer, Ottawa; two daughters, Marilyn Dykes, Olathe; and Mary Jane Fields, Osawatomie; a brother, Leo, Greeley; three sisters, Anna Marie Kratzberg, Mary Rocker and Margie Morgan, all of Greeley; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. A wake service will be 7 p.m. today at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
