The funeral was held from St. Joseph church on Friday forenoon and was very largely attended, his old friends and neighbors in Fredonia township where he resided so many years all attending the funeral. He was among the most wealthy farmers of this county and owned a find half section farm in Fredonia township and another of the same size in Meadow and was possessed of much money which he accumulated by hard labor and thrift at the beginning of life's battle and by judicious investment. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him and his death will be keenly felt by a large number who will extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives. He was born in Jackson county, Iowa, on May 20, 1860, and with his parents came to Plymouth county about thirty-two years ago, locating on a farm in Fredonia township. He was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Graff of Marcus on May 12, 1837, and seven children were born to them, who with the widow, survive him. His father and mother have both died. Three brothers, Supervisor M. Kass of Le Mars, Nicholas Kass who lives in Dakota and Joe Kass who lives in Sioux County, and two sisters, Mrs. Anton Hilger of America township, and Mrs. N. H. Groff of Granville, survive him. All of the brothers and sisters were here to attend the funeral.
