The son of Joseph and Catherine Volmert Buechter, he was born July 6, 1898, at St. Elizabeth, Mo. He moved to Cedar Rapids as a young man, and was married to Elizabeth Kleffner Feb. 22, 1927, at St. Anthony church in that community. They farmed near Cedar Rapids until 1950, when they moved to Columbus. Mr. Buechter had been employed as night clerk at Keen Korner Motel. He was a member of the Catholic church. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Jim (Mary Ellen) Hutchison of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Ed (Catherine) Mahoney of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Michael (Betty) Palmaffy of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Charles (Elaine) Orr of Newton, Ia.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are three brothers, Frank and Ben Buechter of Cedar Rapids and Lambert of St. Louis, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kleoppel of Norbourne, Mo., and Mrs. Katherine Blomberg of Eldon, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Herman, William, Henry and one in infancy; and a sister, Mary.
