Yesterday's Shelbyville Herald: Since Saturday night there has been two deaths of typhoid fever in the family of Solomon Peoples near Klrby, two deaths of diphtheria in the family of Rev. L. S. Hale, four miles south of Shelbyville, and one death of typhoid fever in the family of Ed Kenney, near Kirby. Sanford, 7 years old, the youngest child of Rev. L. S. Hale, died at 9:15 Monday night of diphtheria, and at 10 a. m. yesterday John, about 9 years, also died of the same disease. Miss Effie, about 12 years old, is also sick. Both boys will be buried in this city this morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. Hale lives on Salt River, aboul four miles south of town, and recently lost his son James of typhoid fever. The sympathy of the people at large is extended to Solomon Peoples and wife, who live one and one-fourth miles north of Berea. Sunday morning at 5 o'clock his daughter, Miss Lalia, nearly 22 years old, died of typhoid fever. She was buried on Monday at the family burying ground, and while the parents and friends were attending the burial, the oldest daughter, Miss Oda died , at 3:15 p. m. She was buried yesterday at the same place. Another daughter, Miss Myrtle, aged about 17, is very sick and her recovery is doubtful. The 20-year-old son Lunnie is also quite sick. The Quincy Daily Journal, Thursday, October 24, 1895; Page: 6 —Last week the Democrat spoke of the death of two children, two sons of Rev. L. S. Hale, Sanford the youngest, 7-years old, died Monday, Oct. 21st, and John, aged 9, died the next day; and Miss Effie, 12-years old was not expected to live all of diphtheria. But Dr. Smith administered antitoxins to Miss Effie and she has recovered. This is a sad case, and still more afflicting when we remember that not long ago he buried another son named James. Certainly this afflicted family deserves the sympathy of all good people.
