Description	:	John Lewis Seeley was born near Warsaw, Genesee Co. (now Wyoming Co.), State of New York on the 16th day of March 1832. There he resided for nineteen years. He died August 31, 1911 at 8:30 a.m. In 1851 he removed to Illinois and settled not far from Chicago, ten years later he went to Iowa. About that time he began his first work on the Northwestern line, not a single spike having been driven as yet on what later became one of America's most efficient railway systems. (now Wyoming Co.), State of New York on the 16th day of March 1832. There he resided for nineteen years. He died August 31, 1911 at 8:30 a.m. In 1851 he removed to Illinois and settled not far from Chicago, ten years later he went to Iowa. About that time he began his first work on the Northwestern line, not a single spike having been driven as yet on what later became one of America's most efficient railway systems. Later, he also worked for the Burlington railroad. He was married to Charlotte R. Wallace on September 6, 1855 at Sycamore, Dekalb Co., Ill. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, of whom two sons and the daughter are living. For twelve years, he was surveyor of Buchanon County, Iowa. In the autumn of 1879, he removed from Independence, Iowa to Nebraska, where for many years he continued to work at his profession as surveyor. He served as surveyor of Antelope county for two terms and at the time of his death was filling his second term as surveyor of Knox county. He was Civil Engineer for the city of Creighton for a period of two years. For eighteen years his residence has been in Creighton. He was active in church work, having been led to the acceptance of a Savior at the age of eight. He was instrumental in aiding in the erection of three church edifices; Millerboro Presbyterian church, Olcott M.E. and the Methodist church of Creighton in which was held his funeral service. He was one of the old veterans, being a member of Company K, 52nd, Ill. Volunteer. He was a man of strong character, strong physique and strong mind and with these natural endowments of a mild temperate disposition. He believed in work to accomplish things and always wished to "die in the harness" as he expressed it. His sickness lasted for eleven months, requiring patience and fortitude to bear up, which he nobly exercised, frequently expressing his gratitude for the kindness and care his son and his wife showed towards him. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Earl E. Bowen, assisted by Rev. Alcorn of the Congregational Church and Rev. Brown of the Episcopal Church. A short service was held at the house, succeeded by one at the Methodist church. Besides the six active pallbearers, honorary pallbearers from the GAR Post, as well as members of the W.H. Irwin Post #70, followed as an escort.
