Description	:	27 June 1870 --- 17 April 1930 John L. Nickles, was born in Vosges, France on June 27, 1870. When a lad four years of age, "Louie," as he was familiarly called, came to America with his parents. They first located in LaSalle county, Illinois, where they resided for three years. On coming to Iowa they located in Wall Lake township, where Mr. Nickles first acquired 40 acres of land and other tracts at various times, until finally possessed a half section, as stated above. When a lad four years of age, "Louie," as he was familiarly called, came to America with his parents. They first located in LaSalle county, Illinois, where they resided for three years. On March 19, 1892, he was united in marriage with Sadie Frakes of Woolstock. Seven children were born to them as follows: Rayner, Lula, Ilo, Mary, Myrtle, Lois and Lottie. Mr. Nickles was a member of the IOOF and MWA societies. He held the office of township assessor and trustee for several years and was held in high esteem. He was a man of generous impulses, with a kind word for all. His death was a shock to all his family and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Nickles farm home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Mason E. Miller pastor of the Webster City Christian church, in charge.
