He was a victim of heart disease and complications. Mr. Ludvicek had been in failing health for the last five years and was confined to his bed for about five months before his death. Both the decedent and his wife were at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cibula, near Belle Plaine, from last September until Mr. Ludvicek was removed to St. Luke's hospital at Cedar Rapids, where he remained about two weeks before returning to his home July 3. Early in the spring he also was a patient in a Des Moines hospital for a few weeks. Mrs. Ludvicek was with him during that time and assisted in caring for her husband until his death. The decedent was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ludvicek Sr. and was born on a farm about one mile west of Vining on July 24, 1872. He was reared to manhood in the Vining community and was a resident of Tama county all his life . He was united in marriage to Julia Mochal on July 23, 1894, by Vince Kosnar, prominent early day justice of the peace. For a brief time the newlywedded couple made their home with Mr. Ludvicek's parents. Then they began housekeeping for themselves on a farm near Elberon, but after one year moved to a farm near the parental Ludvicek homestead. Thirty-three years ago, they discontinued farming and moved to Vining, their home ever since. They operated a boarding house for a number of years, then opened a grocery, hardware store and billiard hall. Mr. Ludvicek continued in business until failing health forced his retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Ludvicek were the parents of one child—Mrs. Mayme Cibula, already mentioned. Besides his wife and daughter, Mr. Ludvicek is survived by one grandson Norman Edward Cibula, eight months old; five sisters, Mrs. Anna Pitka, of Gibbon, Nebraska; Mrs. Helen Hach, and Mrs. Mary Cizek, Clutier; and Mrs. Minnie Abel and Miss Agnes Ludvicek, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, James Ludvicek, of Chelsea, and Edward Ludvicek, of Buckingham. One sister, Julia and two brothers, Joseph and Frank died in childhood, while another brother, George Ludvicek, died about twelve y ears ago. Mr. Ludvicek was a long time member of the C. S. A. lodge, formerly the C. S. P. S. order. Funeral services were held Monday at the home in Vining and at the C. S. A. hall there, with Speaker Theodore Hlubucek, of Cedar Rapids, officiating. The Vining Congregational choir sang "Just As I Am," ''Till We Meet Again," and "We Are Going Down the Valley One by One," with Mrs. George McKinney, of Traer, at the piano. Casket bearers, all cousins and cousins-in-law of the decedent, were James, Louis and Joseph Podhajsky, Frank Mochal, and Joseph and Charles Konicek. Burial was in National cemetery near Vining.
