Description	:	March 20, 1929 - Carroll Times - John Lux passed away at St. Anthony hospital Saturday, following an illness of several months duration. He was taken sick early in the winter and about two weeks ago was removed to the hospital where he remained until death came to relieve him of all earthly suffering. Born August 8, 1839, in Legeishurst, Baden, Germany, John Lux attained the ripe old age of 89 years, 7 months. He came to America in 1862, settling in Pennsylvania. On July 13 of the following year he was married to Selma Knoblock at Erie, Pa. Ten children were born to them of whom eight are living. In 1871 they came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Benton county, there they remained for five years, their next move was to Carroll county where they have resided for over 50 years. When coming to this county they moved onto a farm in Sheridan township. At that time the community did not present the atractive farm buildings and well tiled land it does today. Without the aid of the labor saving farm machinery of today John Lux, like the other early settlers, succeeded in transforming a prairie land into a prosperous farming community. By hard work and with a foresight of the possibilities the future offered, Mr. Lux set about to establish a home for himself and his family. He was rewarded by winning a liberal share of this world's goods. Fair and just in all his dealings he made friends easily and kept them through the years. John Lux is survived by his wife, who is confined to her home by sickess. The following children also survive their father: Mrs. Mary Drumm, Pipestone, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Clapper of Carroll; Mrs. Elizaeth Schroeder of Perry; John Lux of north of Carroll; William Lux of Lidderdale; George Lux of Huntley, Minn.; Mrs. Sophia Ott of Lake City; Mrs. Anna Bertram of Long Beach, Calif., who is ill in a hospital. There are 52 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. All the sons have followed the occupation of their father and are prosperous farmers. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church of which he was a member. Rev. A.J. Mueller, pastor of the church officiated. Six grandchildren of the deceased acted as pallbearers. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Lux retired from active farming in 1902, moving to a home they purchased on North Court street where they have resided since. In 1922 the worthy couple observed their 60th wedding anniversary, when a number of their relatives gathered at their home and joined with them in celebrating the event.
