Death was caused by pneumonia and the frailties of old age. Selma Knoblock was born June 4, 1841, at Holzhausen, Germany. The records show that she was baptized June 12, 1841, and confirmed March 9, 1856. In the year 1862 she came to this country, and on July 13, 1863, in Erie, Penn., she was united in marriage to John Lux, who preceded her in death on March 16 of this year. Mr. and Mrs. Lux remained in Pennsylvania for eight years and in 1871 moved to Benton county, Ia., where they lived for five years. The next move was to Carroll county. From the years 1875 to 1902, Mr. and Mrs. Lux resided on a farm in Sheridan township, north of Carroll. In 1902 they moved to Carroll, and from that time on the home was maintained at 926 North Court street. Of sturdy womanly character, Mrs. Lux attracted the respect of all who knew her. She was a good mother, genuine, kindly and patient, and a homemaker in the true sense of the word. With her husband she endured the hardships of pioneer life, striving and working, her thoughts always centered on the children who had been given to her care. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lux, two of whom have died, namely, Mrs. Kate Youngerman and Sarah, who died at the age of 3 years. The eight surviving children are: Mrs. Mary Drumm, Pipestone, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Clapper of Carroll; Mrs. Elizabeth Schroeder of Perry; John Lux, of north of Carroll; William Lux of Lidderdale; George Lux, Huntley, Minn.; Mrs. Sophie Ott, Lake City; and Mrs. Anna Bertram, Long Beach, Calif. There are two daughters-in-law, six sons-in-law, 52 grandchildren, 36 grandchildren, and one great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A.J. Mueller officiating, and Mrs. Lux was laid to rest in the city cemetery.
