Babcock, was born March 25, 1858, near Cooperstown, New York. When he was seven years old the family move to Jo Davis [Daviess] county, Illinois, and for fifteen years he and his father were among the most successful farmers in that vicinity. In the spring of 1884 the family came to Nebraska and bought a farm north of Neligh, where he and his father were again partners in farming. In September, 1886, Mr. Babcock was married to Lennah E. Trowbridge of Neligh. They lived on the farm until the spring of 1905, when they sold their place and moved into Neligh. One daughter, Florance, now Mrs. Leonard Mitchell, was born to them. Last fall, because of the failing health of Mr. Babcock, he and his wife went to spend the winter at the home of their daughter in Yankton, South Dakota. There, September 29, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, and there Mr. Babcock died April 22, 1937. Always interested in the best things for his community, Mr. Babcock served at one time on the board of education of the Neligh city schools and on the city park board. At the time if his death he was still a member of the Laurel Hill Cemetery association. Besides his wife, Lennah, and daughter, Florance, there are two cousins, Mrs. Gail Skinner and Mrs. Margaret Barber, of Chicago. Funeral services were held at the home in Yankton, the Rev. Leonard Mitchell reading the service.
