Description	:	Elwood resident, 83 ELWOOD - John M. Boyle, 83, of Elwood died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Elwood Care Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Smithfield with the Rev. Thomas Lux officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at North Platte Cemetery. He was born Aug. 4, 1930, at Hershey to Clement F. and Bertha E. (Fry) Boyle. In 1952, he married Mary Elizabeth Pursel of North Platte. She died in 1967. Survivors include his sons, Tim Boyle and his wife, Carol, of Johnson Lake, Mark Boyle and his fiancée, Katherine Black, of El Paso, Texas, and Matthew Boyle of Kearney; daughter, Angela Cover and her husband, Douglas, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and another great-grandchild due in September. He graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis. He went back to Hershey and worked as a farmhand for George Green then later farmed north of Hershey and work for Armour Meat Packing Plant. He remained in the North Platte area where he had several farming and construction jobs and also worked for Lawrence Calhoun Ranch. In December 1966, he became a federal meat inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, so the family moved to Lexington. In 1970, they moved to Elwood where he lived until his death. John retired from the USDA in November 1996 and worked for 10 years with Johnson Lake Development Corp. As a young man in high school and later in the professional ranks, John participated in rodeo as a steer wrestler. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Smithfield. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard and Dan Boyle; and son, Johnathan Eric Boyle. Published in Kearney Hub on August 6, 2013 .
