Description	:	John M. Knecht was born on January 13, 1890, to George and Ursula Knecht at Akron. John was united in marriage with Lillie Wiese in Sac County on January 14, 1914. To this union were born two children. John lived and farmed in the Pleasant Hill community until about a year ago. He took great pride in the quality livestock he raised. Knecht was born on January 13, 1890, to George and Ursula Knecht at Akron. John was united in marriage with Lillie Wiese in Sac County on January 14, 1914. To this union were born two children. John lived and farmed in the Pleasant Hill community until about a year ago. He took great pride in the quality livestock he raised. He adopted the use of hybrid seed corn shortly after it was introduced to the market. He continued to farm with horses until his retirement in 1955. John was devoted to his family and he and Lillie were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at their farm with their children, grandchildren and other relatives. Though Lillie died in 1966, John continued to live alone on the farm until about a year ago. John M. Knecht passed from this life to the next on June 15, 1985 at Cedar Rapids, at the age of 95 years. His death followed a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and four brothers. Here to memorialize the life of John M. Knecht are his children, Verne of Cedar Rapids and Lola Oakley of Santa Clara, California; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Mienke of Ida Grove and Mrs. Margaret Dodt of Sioux City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
