Hermsen, John Walz and Dr. Sheridan Delaney. John O'Brien, who had been a resident of Carroll county for the past 50 years, was born at Grand Mound, Ia., on March 1, 1864. When but a young man he accompanied his brother to Carroll county and together they worked on a farm south of town. On May 14, 1889 he was married to Miss Catherine Lenz. The wedding mass was read at Ss. Peter and Paul church in Carroll, by the Rev. Fr. Nacke. The young couple went to farming immediately and continued to live on the same farm south of town until the year 1894, when they moved to a farm near Maple River, Ia. They lived on the sams farm until 1929, when due to the poor health of Mr. O'Brien, they retired to their new home on Elm street, where they have since resided. To the couple were born nine children: Edward of Corning, CA; Vincent of Lake View; Annabelle, Mrs B.A. Pille of Maple River; Arthur of Maple River; (Josephine) Mrs. Frank Bruening, George, Frank, and Robert, all of Carroll. One daughter, (Lucy) Mrs. B.A. Pille died in 1918. Surviving with Mrs. O'Brien and the eight children are sixteen grandchildren. All the living children will be present for the funeral services tomorrow.
