Description	:	SHICKLEY, JOHN M.—John M. Shickley died at the Keen hotel at Omaha, Neb., at 10 a.m. Friday, December 16, 1921, following a short illness of acute indigestion. He was taken ill the Monday before his death, but his condition was not considered critical until the morning he died. Early Friday morning Mr. Shickley felt better and he walked to the bathroom. He was taken ill the Monday before his death, but his condition was not considered critical until the morning he died. Early Friday morning Mr. Shickley felt better and he walked to the bathroom. He was stricken on his way back to bed and shortly became unconscious, soon passing away. Mr. Shickley was born at Jamestown O., September 5, 1859. He came to Fillmore county, Nebraska, with his parents, Judge and Mrs. B.F. Shickley, in 1876. January 1, 1884, he was married to Miss Nellie Field at Fairmont, Neb. Mr. Shickley is survived by his wife and son Harold, a grandson John, and four brothers, Will and Vint of Ranchester, Wyo., Charles of Buffalo, Wyo., and Frank of Omaha. A son, Walter died six years ago. Mr. Shickley served twelve years as clerk of the county court in Fillmore county. Later he served six years as cashier of the bank at Strang. In 1909, he moved to Lincoln, going into the insurance business. At the time of his death he was state agent for the Home Insurance Co. of New York. He had just gone to Omaha to make his home in order to be in a better position to carry on his work. Several agents working under him at Omaha, Lincoln, York, Fairbury, and other places were here to attend the funeral. The body was brought to Geneva Saturday afternoon and the funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal church here at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 19, the services being conducted by Rev. R. H. Thompson. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 22, 1921 page 1.
