Description	:	John Monson, 91, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. John Magnus Monson was born March 4, 1919 on a farm 13 miles south of Lennox, SD, the son of Henry and Lena (Hill) Monson. He grew up on a farm south of Centerville where he attended rural school. John Magnus Monson was born March 4, 1919 on a farm 13 miles south of Lennox, SD, the son of Henry and Lena (Hill) Monson. He grew up on a farm south of Centerville where he attended rural school. He graduated from Beresford High School in 1936. On May 22, 1941 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Overgaard at Volin, South Dakota. They had three children: Vernon, Donna and Kendall. The couple farmed near Centerville until moving into Lennox in 1977. He became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in 2010. His wife, Evelyn, died just two months ago on January 2, 2011. Her death ended a marriage union of over 69 years. John was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He had been a member of Scandia Lutheran Church where he was the Luther League leader. He had been President of the South Dakota Pork Producers and had been a member of the Tri-Valley Barbershop Chorus. He and Evelyn were active with their children in 4H. Besides his parents and his wife, Evelyn, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Murra, two brothers: Lewis and Joe Monson; four sisters: Anna Muchow, Esther Larson, Hilda Gustafson and Marie Anderson. He was the last surviving member of the Henry and Lena Monson family. Grateful for having shared his life are his sons: Vernon Monson and his wife Geri, Lennox and Kendall Monson of Beresford; nine grandchildren: Tamara Monson, Todd Monson, Amy Wilson, Kate Monson, Alex Monson, Arlana Spillum, Alan Murra, April Crockett and Aaron Murra; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox.
