Evelyn Naomi Overgaard was born on January 24, 1923 on a farm near Centerville, South Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Olga (Norgren) Overgaard. She grew up attending Euclid Country School and then graduated from Centerville High School in 1941. On May 22, 1941 she was united in marriage to John Monson at Volin, South Dakota. They had three children: Vernon, Donna and Kendall. The couple farmed near Centerville until moving into Lennox in 1977. She became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in 2008. Her death ended a marriage union of over 69 years. Evelyn was a member of First English Lutheran Church. She was active in the Scandia Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, sang in the choir and was church pianist as needed. She was a Sunday School Leader, Luther League Advisor and pianist for the primary grades for many years. She and John were active with their children in 4H. As a 4H member Evelyn won a trip to 4H Club Congress in Chicago in the foods division. She also went to the State Fair many times for Dress Review. After retirement, Evelyn became very active with crafts. She enjoyed scrapbooking, stamping and making her own greeting cards. Besides her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Overgaard, a sister, Betty Svarstad and a daughter, Donna Murra. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, John, Lennox; sons: Vernon Monson and his wife Geri, Lennox and Kendall Monson of Beresford; nine grandchildren: Tamara Monson, Amy Wilson, Todd Monson, Kate Monson, Alex Monson, Alan Murra, Arlana Spillum, April Crockett and Aaron Murra; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
