Mr. Shultz is the oldest member if the school not only in years of age, being 78 years old, but also in years of Sunday school attendance. Mr. Shultz attended Sunday School on Allen creek before the Civil War and has attended school in different buildings in this immediately neighborhood for over forty years. M. Shultz is Dead. John Maltzbaugh Shultz, an old settler of this vicinity, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Sotow, last Monday. He was 82 years, 1 month ad 1 day of age. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon and interment was made in Frost cemetery. He relatives a large number of relatives in this vicinity. Shultz was born in Knox county, Ohio, near Danville, June 4th, 1833 - Died July 5th, 1915 at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 1 day. He was converted and joined the M.E. church at the age of 17 years. He signed the temperance pledge at the age of years and was faithful to both the remainder of his life. He was married in 1854 to Elizabeth Frost who died in 1182 [1882]. Four children were born to this union of which two are deceased, Harvey Austin and Lillie Jane. The surviving children are Mrs. Henry Sotow and Mrs. Walter Jaquith who live on Allen Creek. He came to Kansas in 1859 and settled on Allen Creek and has lived there most life except when he lived in Illinois. He was married to Mrs. Martha E. Morris in 1884 who died in 1904. He was the youngest of eleven children and lived to a greater age than anyone for the family. He was an earnest Sunday School and Church worker and always worked for the advancement of the community in which he resided. The last years of his life he affiliated with the U. B. church of which her was a member at the time of his death. He leaves 13 grand children and 12 great-grand-children, and a host of near relatives and friends to mourn his death. He took sick June first with malaria fever and a complication of diseases of which he died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Sotow. Owing to the absence of the regular pastor, J.D. Stevens at Mr. Hermon, Rev. Lane the MP. pastor of Allen conducted the services. The choir which was composed of Messers. Harry Wolf, Harry Shope, Carl Kerr, and John Grimsley and Mrs. Inez Milliken, Mrs. Jennie Graham, Cora Graham and Lizzie Seegar sand the following songs which ere of his own selection: "Nearer My go to Thee," "Will There be Any Stars in My Crown?" and "Shall We Gather at the River?" after which the remains were laid to rest in the family burying lot in Frost cemetery.
