No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist. Said John M. whitt was born in Tazwell County in the state of Virginia, is Twenty six years of age, five feet eleven inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a farmer. Given at Benton Barracks, Virginia this 29 day of June 1865. John Sr. was discharged from the Union Army in 1865 after the Civil War. It is all shown on his discharge paper. John Marion Whitt Sr. and his son John Marion Whitt Jr, at 13 years lived with Noah Whitt in South Dakota in 1910. He is also listed as living in Timber Creek, Nebraska for a while. The Census of 1910 in Dallas Ward 1, Gregory, South Dakota has John Marion Whitt Sr. age 73 living with Noah Bunyon Whitt age 63, Margaret E. Whitt age 60, and John H. Whitt age 19 All that is known of his wife is that her last name was "Blue". The following was written by The Tripp County Journal: Thursday September 15, 1910, front page column 4; It says: Old solider Dies: John Marion Whitt Sr., an old solider and homesteader living eight and a half miles southwest of Lamro, died of heart failure last Friday. He was found dead in his bed. His remains were entered in the Lamro Cemetery Sunday. The deseased leaves behind a brother Noah B. Whitt and a host of friends to mourn his loss. The advocate extends condolences. John Marion Sr. died on September 10, 1910 at the age of 73 in Gregory, Tripp County, South Dakota. From the WPA 1941 graves project reading, has only his name and place of burial.
