WHITT PASSED AWAY AT HOME HERE Suffered a Paralytic Stroke About Two Weeks Earlier; Funeral Sunday John Marion Whitt was born at Trenton, Missouri, February 4, 1869 and passed away at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Whitt in this city, July 25, 1940, at the age of 71 years, five months and 21 days. At the age of eighteen he came to Nebraska and located on Timber Creek near Cedar Rapids with his father, John Marion Whitt Sr. In 1894 he was united in marriage to Lottie Cleveland of South McAlllister, in the Indian Territory. After a year's residence in Oklahoma he returned to Nebraska and located at Cushing as Burlington section foreman. Later, in 1904 he transferred to Belgrade as section foreman with the Union Pacific. In 1908 he moved his family to Albion where he resided thirty-two years. To this union six children were born, four sons and two daughters. The surviving relatives are his sons, Frank of Cedar Rapids, Lloyd of Albion, Charles of Prescott, Arizona, and Clarence of Sterling, Colorado; and fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two daughters, his wife passing away on May 9, 1909. During his last months he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Whitt. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Smith Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Pace of the Baptist church. Interment was made at Cedar Rapids.
