Description	:	John “Jack” Mark Miller, age 89, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Bert and Tillie (Alberts) Miller on August 28, 1928, on the home farm in Butler County, five miles north of Aplington. He attended school at Melrose Township #2. After his schooling, Jack worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa. Read More	John “Jack” Mark Miller, age 89, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Bert and Tillie (Alberts) Miller on August 28, 1928, on the home farm in Butler County, five miles north of Aplington. He attended school at Melrose Township #2. After his schooling, Jack worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa. Jack served in the United States Army from February 7, 1951, until February 19, 1953, during the Korean Conflict. During this time, he was stationed in Germany. On June 20, 1953, Jack was united in marriage with Joan Phyllis Mehmen at a Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After their marriage, Jack and Joan farmed and raised their family on the same farm where Jack was born. Jack was an active and faithful member of the Kesley Presbyterian Church in Kesley, where he also served as an elder. He enjoyed taking fishing vacations to Bass Lake, Minnesota and to Randall’s Resort in Baudette, Minnesota. Jack was a member of the Aplington AMVETs. Jack enjoyed trading in his cars for new ones, fishing at their farm pond and spending time with family. Jack died Friday, August 24, 2018, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joan; his parents; eight sisters, Cornelia Jungling, Henrietta Mennen, Carrie Bertram, Madeline Cordes, Marion Cordes, Bertilda Freese, Mildred Ridder and Frances Stubbe; and three brothers, Merle, Dick and Delbert Miller. Jack is survived by two sons, Jeffery (Kim) Miller of North Freedom, Wisconsin and James (Tamara) Miller of Aplington; one daughter, Jolene (Joe) Thorne of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Michael Dann, Nicole (Mark) Day, Maggie (Robert) Gorter, Zachary Miller, Ashley Graves and Taylor (Andrea) Graves; and many great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Aalderks of Aplington; two sisters-in-law, Dee Miller of Aplington and Hannah Miller of Shell Rock, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the First Reformed Church in Bristow, with burial in the Bethel Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Aplington. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, and one hour before services at the church.
