Description	:	The Fairfield Ledger August 7, 1895 Page 3 Responded to the Last Roll Call John MARTIN, a veteran soldier and sailor, died in this city Friday night, from an affection of the bladder with which he had been suffering for more than a year. Mr. MARTIN was in the sixtieth year of his age. He was born at Halifax, Nova Scotia, came to the United States during the War of the Rebellion, was naturalized and joined the Union navy at Cincinnati, Ohio, November 2d, 1864. Read More	The Fairfield Ledger August 7, 1895 Page 3 Responded to the Last Roll Call John MARTIN, a veteran soldier and sailor, died in this city Friday night, from an affection of the bladder with which he had been suffering for more than a year. Mr. MARTIN was in the sixtieth year of his age. He was born at Halifax, Nova Scotia, came to the United States during the War of the Rebellion, was naturalized and joined the Union navy at Cincinnati, Ohio, November 2d, 1864. He saw three years' service on the gunboat "Shawbutt." When his term of enlistment expired he joined the regular army as a private in Company H, Seventh cavalry. He was wounded and lost his left leg in a battle with Indians near Ft. Riley, Kan. After residing at Dayton, Ohio, for several years, he came to Libertyville, this county, in 1878, and to Fairfield in 1883. His wife died shortly after their removal to Fairfield, and April 15th, 1886, he was married to Mrs. Nannie STOUT, who survives him. Mr. MARTIN was a brave soldier, took great pride in his military record, and was very popular with his comrades. His remains were interred in this city Sunday afternoon, and he was given a soldier's burial by members of George STRONG Post. Rev. J.P. Magill conducted the funeral services.
