A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton with Pastor Linda Lambert officiating. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of the arrangements. Brower was born March 7, 1924 in Grand Island to Robert Clark and Lenore (Heyrock) Brower. After graduating from Fullerton High School in 1942, he attended Doane College for one semester before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in early 1943. After receiving aviation radar and navigation training in Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee, Brower was stationed at various locations in the South Pacific including New Hebrides and the Solomon Islands. Brower’s military service involved naval engagements at Guadalcanal, New Ireland and the Philippines. Brower remained on active duty until receiving his discharge in 1946. Brower’s military service continued in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1952. Brower resumed his education by enrolling at the University of Nebraska in 1946, where he received his law degree in 1951. On July 9, 1949, John and Margaurite Emily Leonard were married in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Brower met Margaurite while the latter was attending the University of Colorado College of Nursing. The couple moved permanently to Fullerton in 1951, where John joined his father at the law firm of Brower & Brower. The law firm expanded to St. Edward and Albion with addition of partners Donald R. Treadway in 1962 and Larry Bird in 1972. Brower served for long periods as Fullerton City Attorney and as board member and legal counsel to Fullerton Public Schools and as its President for four years. In 1980, Brower was appointed as Nebraska District Judge to serve Nance, Merrick, Boone, Platte, and Colfax Counties. Brower’s judicial service continued until his retirement in 1991 and was notable in that both his father and grandfather had also served as judges of the Nebraska Supreme Court and the County Court of Nance County, respectively. He is survived by wife of 67 years, Margaurite E. (Leonard) Brower of Fullerton, NE; children and spouses, Sam R. and Deborah C. Brower of Omaha, NE, Carol A. and Jonathan R. Bradley of Lake Oswego, OR, Janet L. Brower of Poulsbo, WA, and Joseph P. and Dawn Brower of Lovettsville, VA; grandchildren, Michael C. Brower and Bryan R. Brower of Kansas City, MO, Sarah J. Brower of Omaha, Amanda K. Bradley of San Francisco, CA, Emma L. Bradley of Las Vegas, NV, Cortland T. Brower and Ellie M. Brower, both of Lovettsville, VA; sister, Helen J. Porter of Lincoln, NE; and brother, Thomas D. Brower of Fremont, NE. He is preceded in death by parents, Robert Clark Brower and Lenore Susannah (Heyrock) Brower of Fullerton, NE and Kalispell, MT. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Fullerton School Foundation and Nance County Foundation.
