Read More	VETERAN US ARMY PRESIDENTIAL HONOR GUARD MISSOULA – John Martin Neidt, 76, of Missoula, passed away at home Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, after a short battle with metastatic melanoma of the liver. He was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Missoula to John and Jessie (Chilcote) Neidt. John was raised on the family ranch in the Big Hole Valley. His family moved to Frenchtown in 1949 and Dad graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army after high school and served for two years in the Presidential Honor Guard at Fort Myers, Washington, D.C. Upon completion of his service in the Army, Dad returned to Missoula where he met a foxy schoolteacher, Linda Gundersen, while playing pinochle with friends. They were married April 5, 1969. Dad was a devoted husband and father to his three children, Laila, John Daniel and Karin. As a skilled carpenter, he built his family four lovely homes in Missoula. After working for Owens Corning Fiberglass for many years, John started his own ceiling tile contracting business, Northwest Interior Contracting, in 1999. John and Linda were active members of the First Baptist Church of Missoula for many years. In his last years, Dad was a regular participant in weekly Bible studies. John and Linda also enjoyed traveling with their good friends, Ben and Joyce Olson. Their adventures included a trip to Italy, Caribbean cruises and extended vacations in Mexico. They also relished playing canasta with their friends, going on drives in the Bitterroot Valley and Friday night "date nights." John was mechanically gifted and took pleasure in tinkering, woodworking and boat building. Among his many talents, he was known for his famous buttermilk pancake breakfasts. While Dad worked in the carpentry trade, his true vocation was his family. Dad was a dedicated husband, father, brother, son and uncle. We love and will miss him dearly. Survivors include his wife Linda, Missoula; two daughters, Laila Grassley, Washington, D.C., and Karin Neidt, Seattle; two sisters, Nancy Young, Plains, and Rosa Tougas, Ronan; a granddaughter, Pearl Neidt; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Daniel Neidt; two sisters, Joan Cook and Mary Mocabee; and his brother, Jason Neidt. Services will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 1, at Garden City Funeral Home with a reception following.
