John (Jack) Mathew Worden was born January 26, 1932, to Lloyd and Alice (Mansfield) Worden in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended schools in Sioux City. Worden, age 82, of Yankton, SD, and formerly of Gayville, SD, passed away May 15, 2014, while visiting at his daughter's home in Viborg, SD. John (Jack) Mathew Worden was born January 26, 1932, to Lloyd and Alice (Mansfield) Worden in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended schools in Sioux City. After serving in the U.S Army during the Korean War, he returned to Sioux City where he was employed at the Dressed Pork Packing Plant. He married Rita Wood on April 6, 1963, in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They resided in Sioux City until 1968 when they moved to rural Gayville where he farmed until his death. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton and the Gayville American Legion. Jack believed there was good in everyone and he believed life was good. He enjoyed every second of every day and never worried about what he didn't have or what the next day might bring. He accepted God's plan. He was very athletic and able to do most any sport better than average the first time he tried. During his lifetime, he raced motorcycles and snowmobiles. He bowled, golfed, fished, boated, and camped. He played football, basketball, baseball, fast-pitch softball, and slow-pitch softball. One thing he didn't do well was hunt – he tried deer hunting once but couldn't pull the trigger. The activity he enjoyed most was babysitting his grandkids when they were, in his words, "little rug rats". When his first grandchild, Jenny Huether, first began to talk, she called him Grandpa Tissy and he forever remained Grandpa Tissy to her and grandkids yet to be born. He loved watching his grandsons play football, basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, participate in track and field, and play in the school orchestra. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughters play volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, and soccer as well as participate in track and field, ballet and various other forms of dance. Jack is survived by his wife, Rita; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Bill Huether, of Viborg and Regan and Matt Luken, of Yankton; his son, Russell of South Sioux City, Nebraska; two grandsons, Jack Huether, and Matt Luken; five granddaughters, Jenny Huether (Mike) Hanson of Meckling, Thea Luken, Brie Luken, Amanda Worden (Cody) Lackore and Katie Worden; three great granddaughters, Madelyn Hansen, Desirae Lackore and Addison Lackore; a great grandson, Jayme Lackore; two sisters, Dorothy Kozlow of Paso Robles, California; and Joann Kinsey of Effingham, Illinois; three brothers, Bob and Dick of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mike of Los Angeles, California and one special sister-in-law, Mary Worden; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Bryce Huether and Jarrod Worden; three sisters, Betty Winn and Lorraine White of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mary Laski of Torrace, California; and a brother, "Bugsy" Eugene Worden. The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Sanford Children's Hospital.
