SPANGLER DEAD - Fairview - After three months of much suffering and pain, J. M. Spangler passed out of this life on Saturday afternoon, July 24, 1920, at about 5 o'clock. He was born in York county, Pennsylvania on February 22, 1854. His age is 66 years, 5 months, and 2 days. His parents moved to Illinois where he grew to manhood. About thirty years ago he came to Kansas. He married to Elvina Brillhart on June 28, 1877, to which union was blessed with nine children, four having died in infancy. Those living are, Aaron B. Spangler, Fairview; Jennie Spangler, Mt. Vernon, Iowa; Charles O. Spangler, West Forks, Montana; Mrs. Rose Stahl, Lisbon, Iowa; Miss Edith Spangler, Lisbon, Iowa; there are also eight grandchildren. Mrs. Spangler died January 4, 1892. On July 29, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Lucy (Brillhart) Sterling. In early life life he united with the Reformed church and has been a consistent member all these years. Many time we have heard it said during these months of sickness and absence from church and the class in Sunday school with which he has been so long identified, we certainly miss him. Faithfulness, regularity in church attendance and loyalty, to the minister and support of the work in all interest characterized his life. He was deeply interested in the Forward Movement of the church and generously supported the project. One daughter, Ruth, had spent five years as a missionary in China. He had many friends and was a good neighbor and a substantial citizen. The funeral services were held at the Reformed church Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor Rev. W. F. Nasfe. Burial was made in the Isely Cemetery.
