One of the pioneer settlers of Boone County passed to the great beyond, on Thursday at 11:40 o'clock a.m. of last week, as announced in our last issue. He had been ill for some time. John McCall was born in Rush county, Indiana, May 3, 1836, being sixty three years of age at the time of his death. In April, 1847, he came to this county and settled on a farm in Marcy Township. He was a member of the McCall family who were prominent in the early history of the county and the numerous descendants of the early McCall's are still an important factor in the county today. On September 25. 1865, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Lawton who, with four sons, are left to mourn his death. The deceased was a member of the M.E. church at Quincy and also a member of J.G. Miller Post, G.A.R. of the Fifth ward. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from his late residence just south of the Fifth ward. Rev. J.C. Crawford of the Gospel Tabernacle officiated, and the remains laid to rest in Linwood cemetery.
