Buried in Linwood Park Cemetery Services for the late Mrs. Sarah McCall, a pioneer of this county, were held here Tuesday, February 20, at 1:00 o'clock p. m. at the First M. E. church in charge of the the family pastor, the Rev. Karl Hiller, of Highland Park M. E. church assisted by the Rev. F. F. Travis. The music was furnished by Mrs. John Shelley and Mrs. James Nutt, accompanied by Mrs. Glenn Turner. The selections were "Nearer, My God to Thee," City Four Square' and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Nephews and close friends of the family were pall bearers: Messers. D. J. Bricker, Dean Bricker, Tom McCall, Wall McCall, Horace Moffatt, and Theodore Duckworth. Amongst the many beautiful floral offerings, the gifts of loving friends she was tenderly laid to rest in Linwood Park cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death in 1902. Sarah Elizabeth Rose, daughter of Amos and Francina Cheadle Rose. was born near Zanesville, Ohio, September 22, 1843 and died at Des Moines, Iowa, February 17, 1923 at 6:40 p. m., at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 25 days. At the age of three years her parents moved to Washington county, Iowa, and later to what was then know as Fort Des Moines. The family afterwards moved to Boone county, settling in Marcy township. Sarah Rose was married to William B. Lawton, March 29, 1860. To this union was born one daughter, Laurie, who passed away in 1888. Mr. Lawton was killed in the Battle of Pleasantville, April 8, 1864. On September 28, 1865, Mrs. Lawton was united in marriage to John McCall. Mrs. McCall by this union was the mother of seven children: Dinsmore, Printice, Ardell and Marv deceased. Mr. McCall departed this life March 6, 1902. The children living to mourn the departure of their mother are R. S., Glova, and Iva. There were also seven grand-children: Mrs Charles Derry of Rippey, Iowa; Clark, Carroll, Frances, Beth, John, and Donald McCall of Des Moines; one great-grandchild, Vern Derry, of Rippey, and two brothers R. D. and A. T. Rose with a host of friends.
