Read More	PROF. JOHN MCGARRIGLE "Prof. John McGarrigle died in the Calais, Maine, hospital on Thursday, January 6. He was for many years organist in the Catholic Church in Milltown, N.B., and had many musical pupils. Some years ago he was called to Providence, R.I. where he assumed the position of organist in one of the large Catholic churches in that city. Having sustained an accident in being run down by an automobile, he returned home and has since lived with his sister in the homestead in Milltown in recent years spending the winter months at the home of his brother, R.J. McGarrigle, attorney-at-law, in Calais. Deceased was sixty-four years of age and unmarried. The funeral took place on Jan. 8 from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Calais, with a Requiem Mass. Rev. Father Pettit was celebrant, and the internment was made in the family lot in the cemetery in Milltown. The pallbearers were: William J. Graham, Patrick F. Casey, Charles E. Casey and Walter Commins. Out of respect for the deceased, the bell to the church in Milltown was tolled while the funeral cortege passed en route to the cemetery. On Sunday morning Rev. Fr. Murphy paid a glowing tribute to the deceased, his association with the church as musical director in town, and his success in the larger cities was favorably commented upon. His father, the late John McGarrigle Sr., taught school in St. Patrick's Hall 50 years ago and was a typical Irish schoolmaster and a violinist of note. A sister of Prof. McGarrigle's, Miss Elizabeth McGarrigle, now deceased, was also organist in the church in Milltown. Those who survive are two sisters, Misses Mary McGarrigle and Belle McGarrigle of Milltown; R.J. McGarrigle, Esq. of Calais; Edward McGarrigle of New Hampshire, and Charles McGarrigle of Providence, R.I." So DAD waited till the funeral procession came over the Union Bridge and then he rang the church bell at St. Stephen's until the funeral cortege disappeared."
