Mr. McGuinness left Ireland April 11, 1868, arriving in America where he settled at New Haven, Conn. In the year 1877 he came to Nebraska, taking up a homestead two and one half miles south of Ulysses, where he lived until his passing. He was married Feb. 10, 1881 to Miss Elizabeth Reynolds. Six children, three sons and three daughters, blessed their union. They are: Daniel, Francis, James, Nellie, Anna and Catherine. There are also two grand-daughters. His widow, together with the children and grand-children, also several nieces and nephews, survive him. In the passing of Mr. McGuinness there has gone from our midst, a man who braved the vicissitudes of the early pioneer whose pathway was often beset with perplexities. However, by untiring industry and fine executive ability, his efforts were crowned with a goodly competence of this world's goods. To his children he leaves the priceless heritage of an honorable name - in the business world, his word was ever as good as gold. His nature was free from the all too common blemishes of deceit and hypocrisy - traits which he detested. Being strictly domestic in his tastes, he seldom appeared abroad his home and loved ones claimed his time and devotion. During the past two years, deceased was in very poor health, suffering from rheumatism, followed by urenic poisoning. Two weeks prior to his death, Miss Mae L'Estrange, a trained nurse, and friend of the family, gave up a case in Omaha and hastened here to assist in caring for the kindly man whom she regarded in the light of a dear relative. All medical and nursing efforts proved unavailing when the angel of death called. The summons was answered when, fortified by the last sacraments of the church and, at the entrance of the new year, his soul returned to God who gave it. Thus has passed away, a devoted husband, loving father, kind friend and neighbor, and loyal citizen. The grieved family have the sympathy of the entire community. Owing to ill health, deceased had been unable to attend church services for a long time. He was aged 79 yrs, 6 mo's and 17 days. On Thursday morning at ten o'clock, Jan. 3, 1924, his pastor, Rev. Father Loughran, celebrated a Requiem High Mass for the repose of his soul, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where, despite the intensely cold weather, a goodly number of friends were present at the funeral services. The floral offerings were very beautiful. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery near town. The pall-bearers were: James Lambe, Luke Mundy, Jerry Gray, Wm. Coyle, Wm. Schneeberger, Wm.
