Description	:	John McLaren was the third son of "Big" Peter McLaren and Janet Stewart, born September 3, 1846 on the family farm in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. When his father died in 1890 John took possession of the farm that his father had purchased in 1839 and assumed care for his widowed mother. Agnes "Aggie" Mitchell worked as a domestic, helping John care for his mother, and lived with them on the farm. John married Aggie on January 27th, 1897.
